5 Easy Ways to Spruce Up Your Storage Space

With all of this extra time at home, you may have heard that spare space in your home calling out to be rented. Rent me! Rent me! Just us? Well, regardless, a few new shelves and a swipe of fresh paint can go a long way. Get your new listing ready to rent with these tips to keep your storage space clean, so your bookings stay full.

1. Maximise your space

When everything has a place, house cleaning couldn’t be simpler. Adding spare shelving to the walls of your storage listing lets renters know you’ve got a spot for their things, too! When your listing has plenty of shelves it will attract renters to storing stuff in even the farthest corner of your storage space.

2. Freshen it up

Is your listing looking a little dull? There’s no better time to give the walls a bit of attention. Adding a fresh coat of paint tends to bring new life to a tired old space. Paint isn’t in the budget this year? No worries!

Dust a damp sponge with baking soda to gently remove dirt from the walls. We love it when pantry staples double as cleaning products.

3. Things are looking bright

If you’re planning to list a traditionally dark space, like a garage or storage units, you’ll want to double check that the space is getting enough light. If you have a hard time seeing around the room, chances are your renter would, too.

Add a tall lamp or bright light fixture wherever necessary to keep things bright, and safe, for you and your renter.

4. Keep it clean

When it comes to maintaining the cleanliness of your rental listing, a microfibre cloth will be your best friend. These little guys can make a big impact using minimal effort. Now, doesn’t that sound nice?

  • Remove dust like a pro with a dry microfibre cloth
  • Pet hair takes to microfibre like seagulls take to breadcrumbs
  • Soaking your cloth in hot water before wiping down shelving will make it easier to clean any scrapes or smudges that may have surfaced

Here’s the best part; there couldn’t be an easier way to clean microfibre cloths! Just throw them in the washing machine with your usual load. You won’t have a problem finding dryer sheets when it’s all said and done, either - they tend to stick to microfiber like velcro.

No matter what cleaning tool you use, taking care to maintain the hygiene of your listing will go a long way - and your renters will surely appreciate it.

5. Smells like vinegar

Lofts and basements are notorious for having a ‘smell’. Dingy areas like this can be made over in no time with a bit of white vinegar. Vinegar is a wallet-friendly, natural alternative to name brand cleaners. Another pantry staple, the key to an odorless listing could be sitting in your kitchen cabinet, right now!

  • Dilute white vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle with a 1:1 ratio
  • Get a streak-free shine on your windows and let some fresh sunlight in
  • Vinegar is great for cleaning floors, too

Soap scum can say sayonara! Sure, it may smell like vinegar for a bit after you’re done giving your space the ol’ one-two. But that smell will evaporate quicker than you’d think. If you’d rather not wait, we’d recommend adding a couple of citrus peels to the mix and you’ll be good to go.
