Caravan Storage with Stashbee

Finding somewhere decent to store your van is harder than it should be. It’s not that people aren’t looking, demand’s actually gone up. But between shrinking driveways, rising insurance requirements, and councils tightening what’s allowed on residential streets, a lot of the traditional storage options just don’t work anymore.

According to the National Caravan Council, there are more than half a million touring caravans on the road in the UK. But there isn’t nearly enough safe and secure storage for those caravans. You see it most in places like the Lake District, North Devon, or the edges of big cities like Birmingham and Bristol, the areas where people take their caravans out seasonally but live the rest of the year with nowhere to park them.

That’s where Stashbee comes in. We connect you with everyday people like landowners, farmers, business owners, who have secure space they’re not using. No fixed contracts. No year-long commitments. Just flexible, location-based options that reflect how caravan owners actually live: travelling between April and September, then looking for somewhere trustworthy to leave the van during the long winter months when it’s sitting idle.

How to Pick the Right Caravan Storage

If you’re doing regular weekend trips, storage within half an hour of your house is a game changer. You can pack Friday morning, pick up the van that evening, and be on the road before the traffic hits. Most of those spots sit in the £75–£100/month range outside of the London commuter belt. But if you’re only using your caravan a few times a year for long summer trips or annual festivals, looking 30–60 minutes out can save you 20–30% on cost, especially in counties like Shropshire, Lincolnshire or mid-Wales, where there’s plenty of space and fewer pricing pressures.

Through Stashbee, you can browse available options, see proper photos, check what security’s included - CCTV, gated access, lighting, all of it. There’s no waiting list or back-and-forth phone calls. You just find the right space, book it, and off you go.

Our hosts have various levels of security features to provide secure caravan storage. Ones with high levels of security include CCTV cameras, security gates, entry systems and alarm systems. These measures help keep caravans safe and can reduce insurance premiums.

Indoor vs. outdoor Caravan Storage

We’ve seen a real shift over the last couple of years. Not just in where people store, but what kind of storage they’re choosing. In a lot of rural areas, outdoor hardstanding is still the standard. It’s the most affordable, typically £60–£100 a month, and works well if your vehicle’s already a few years old and you just need somewhere level, secure, and reasonably close by. But more owners, especially those with newer models or high-spec touring caravans, are looking at covered or indoor spaces. Even just a carport-style roof can make a difference if you’re storing near the coast, where sea air can corrode metal in months if you’re not careful.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on location and how much protection you want. Outdoor plots range from £60–£100/month. Covered options tend to sit around £80–£150. Indoor, fully enclosed storage usually starts at £120 and can reach £200+ in more in-demand areas.

In many places, yes. But it’s complicated. Some newer estates have property covenants that ban visible caravan storage. Certain councils, especially in conservation zones, can also restrict it. Even when it’s technically allowed, you might still run into friction with neighbours, particularly on narrow streets or where visibility’s affected.

It varies a lot by host, but the basics you want to look for are perimeter fencing, solid surfacing (concrete or reinforced gravel), CCTV, and some form of gated or controlled access. If you're storing for six months or more, check that the access surface is firm year-round — grass tends to turn to mud by November.

  • Drain your water system fully, don’t forget traps or hidden filters.
  • Disconnect the battery (or hook up a solar trickle charger).
  • Remove gas bottles entirely and don’t leave them stored on site.
  • Leave ventilation slightly open to prevent mould.
  • Use tyre covers or rotate the wheels every couple of months.
  • Don’t forget to tell your insurer where it’s being stored, it affects your coverage.
